Vampire Weekend, with their distinct indie sound & moody, yet well-read lyrics, are my absolute favorite band in the entire world. I remember anticipating the release of their very first album– I was in 6th grade. Over 10 years later, they’ve announced the release of their (MUCH AWAITED) 4th LP. I almost cried when I read lead singer Ezra Koenig’s instagram post. The album has been initialed “FOTB,” but no title has been released yet. Koenig announced that two songs will be released every month until the album is released (starting next week)!
VW’s music has actually played a really big part in my life & who I identify as. Their first album got me through middle school, their second album made me embrace my quirky side in high school, their dark & moody third album (released the year I graduated high school) was instrumental in giving me comfort during my transition to college life. It was also that summer that I saw them live for the first time in Berlin. That concert was life changing for me.
Coincidentally, each of their albums has come out at a time where I find myself in a stage of growth. It’s like VW knows I need their music for whatever life is going to throw at me next. Which also speaks to how long they’ve been around– I’ve been listening to VW since I was 11, and I’ll be turning 24 soon. That’s a majority of my life that I’ve been impacted by their music. So I’m ridiculously proud of them for staying relevant & not losing sight of their unique style over the years.
When music, especially one particular band, has had a huge impact on your life the way VW has had on mine, an announcement at this caliber is a really big deal.
Tears of joy. Actual tears. Because VW is blessing me & this world with a DOUBLE album in a few short months.
