Two of my dearest friends came to visit me for the weekend & the fall colors could not have been MORE on time. Along with perfectly crisp weather (and a little rain– what’s fall without a little rain?) it was a beautiful weekend packed with fun activities.
Naturally we had to take full advantage of the beautiful fall colors & amazing weather, so I took them to some of my favorite places to go during Autumn in RVA.
Maymont Park – I’m not sure how long it takes to walk through the entirety of Maymont, but with it’s different gardens and plenty of trails, it takes up a good half a day adventuring through the park.

Hollywood Cemetery – Personally I think the cemetery has one of the most beautiful views of Richmond. The train tracks sit quietly in front of the river, while downtown Richmond towers in the distance.

Breweries in Scotts Addition – this activity is not a seasonal one, but the drink options are! The craft breweries release special brews that are specific to the fall season. Like Hardywood’s Farmhouse Pumpkin Saison or Ardent’s Honey Ginger herbed beer.

Bonus: Carter Mountain – Carter Mountain Orchard is actually about an hours drive from Richmond, closer to Charlottesville. But it is worth the mini-trek to hand-pick some apples, see a breathtaking view of the mountains & the changing trees, and of course enjoy tons of treats– from cider donuts to hot apple cider, and hard cider at the adjoining Bold Rock Cellar.

Some other activities in RVA to soak up the fall weather:
Rooftop bars – The Hof, The Graduate, Quirk are fun when the weather is a little cooler. These are a gamble though– the nights are getting colder now, so make sure to bring layers or bundle up before heading up to enjoy a drink.
South of the James Farmers Market – anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE farmers markets, any time of the year. The South of the James market is my favorite in Richmond, and although I frequent the market year round, it’s especially enjoyable with the crisp fall weather.
Libbie Park – A lunchtime picnic at Libbie Park (with arguably another one of the best views of Richmond) is a great way to spend a lazy weekend afternoon when the weather permits.
What are some of your favorite fall activities in RVA?
